The 3rd Annual Armed Force Ball held on Veterans Day at the Pittsburgh Naval Operations Support Center served as the venue for the recognition of several Western Pennsylvania Warriors. Chapter President Carlos Carmona presented a FORT PITT WARRIOR SERVICE AWARD to:
COL Gregg Perez, PaANG: Commander, 171st Air Refueling Wing, PA Air National Guard. He was instrumental in supporting the Warrior community by hosting the 2016 Armed Forces Ball at his facility. During his command tenure, the 171st contributed significantly to the annual Veterans Day activities in Pittsburgh.
CCM Randy Miller, PaANG: Command Chief Master Sergeant, 171st Air Refueling Wing, PA Air National Guard. As senior enlisted advisor to the commander, CCM Miller was instrumental in coordinating the myriad of details to ensure the successful execution of the 2016 Armed Forces Ball held at the 171st ARW facility. CCM Miller continues to support veterans after retiring from the Air Guard.
CCM Victor Guerra, PaANG: Command Chief Master Sergeant, PA Air National Guard. As senior enlisted advisor to the Pa Air National Guard commander, CCM Guerra worked diligently and tirelessly in coordinating the myriad of tasks of the Air Guard to ensure the success of the 2017 Veterans Day activities including the Pittsburgh Veterans Parade, Steel City Salutes the Troops, and the 3rd Annual Armed Forces Ball.
Mrs. Julia Kysela: 2015 US Army National Guard Spouse of the Year. Ms. Kysela is a supporter of military family programs and Ft Pitt chapter events. A BNY Mellon employee, she organized and served meals to hundreds of troops supporting the annual Steel City Salutes the Troops event at Point State Park over the past two years
CDR Don Haley, USNR (ret): Former Commander, Naval Operations Support
Center, Pittsburgh. CDR Haley was instrumental in taking the lead to host the 2017 Armed Forces Ball as the Pittsburgh Naval Operations Support Center in Coraopolis.
His leadership and support of veterans’ activities enabled the Warrior community to experience another successful celebration.
On behalf of the Chief of Infantry, CSM Christopher Kempner, CSM of the National Guard Bureau, inducted Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, Dr. Rory Cooper, into the ORDER OF SAINT MAURICE as part of the evening’s recognitions. Assisting were all OSM members present at the Ball.
President Carmona surprised Rocky Bleier, Vietnam Veteran and STEELER, and Dr. Rory Cooper by presenting them with FRAMED ARTWORK BY ARTIST JIM RYAN for their long and continued support of the Ft Pitt Chapter in particular, and the Western PA military community as a whole.
Dr. Rory Cooper presented the Legion of Honor Humanitarian Award of THE CHAPEL OF THE FOUR CHAPLAINS to CSM Christopher Kempner in recognition of his selfless service and contributions as a senior enlisted advisor to the 28th Infantry Division, Army National Guard, and the National Guard in significantly enhancing the quality of life of the citizen soldier in the community, state, and nation.
