ARMY STRONG!
2016 Pittsburgh Marathon
Sunday, 1 May, was certainly a day for Pittsburghers to see soldiers being Army Strong!
The major Army commands in the Greater Pittsburgh region were joined by Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army (CASA), Dr. Rory Cooper and Sergeant Major of the Army (SMA) Dan Dailey in representing the US Army in this premier regional running event.
On Saturday SMA Dailey participated in the commissioning ceremony for graduating Army ROTC cadets of the University of Pittsburgh’s Three Rivers Battalion.
SMA Dailey presented the medals to the finishers of the Wounded Warrior participants, including Dr. Cooper, who participated in the hand-cycle division of the race. Dr. Cooper is the Director of Human Engineering and Research Laboratories (HERL) at the University of Pittsburgh.
Participating in the half and full marathon were members of the 316th ESC. COL Kurt Chebatoris, G3 and SPO, and CSM John McPeek were part of the under two-hour half marathon effort. COL Chebatoris also serves as a vice president in the Fort Pitt Chapter.
PA Army National Guard’s 28th Infantry Division’s soldiers also participated, but Division CSM Christopher Kepner not only ran the half marathon but he also carried a 40-pound rucksack and wore combat boots!
A resounding “HOAH” to all of the soldiers who participated in this challenging event!
