ASSOCIATION OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY
Dear AUSA member:
On behalf of the FT. Pitt Chapter, our membership, and the military community of western PA, I am writing to inform you of our Chapter’s revitalization efforts over the past year. As you may or may not know, our member activity has been dormant for the past 10-15 years. Until now the chapter has continued only though the diligence of your treasurer Col. Paul Platek (Retired).
The AUSA Fort Pitt Chapter re-emerged with Army Veteran Carlos-Carmona-Torres assuming the role of Chapter President in June 2011. Carlos is a Veteran of both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. His first action as Chapter President was to appoint an Executive Council comprised of a Vice President (Mark Beichner), a Treasurer (Col. Paul Platek (Ret.), and two Trustees’ (Megan Turak and Col. Steven Patarcity (Ret.).
With organizational tasks underway, the Chapter directed its energy to supporting our region’s Army community and closed 2011 with a number of accomplishments. A Defense Industry Day hosted by Kongsberg Defense provided a forum for members of our defense contracting community to interact with PEO soldier’s CSM McPherson. Our Jobs for Vet’s initiative hosted by AccuTrex Products, Inc. brought together industry, and members of our congressional administrative staff to raise awareness for Veterans that are currently unemployed while providing resources to prepare them for the job market. Finally, our chapter teamed up with ATI Defense and members of the Mylan Classic Tournament Committee to sponsor a military appreciation day during the PGA Tour’s Nationwide tour stop to Southpointe Golf Club. What a great way to say thanks to our service members!
2012 looks even more promising. We kicked off the year by co-hosting a Warrior Luncheon in conjunction with AUSA’s Keystone Chapter to celebrate the completion of funding for the 2 IBCT Memorial being built in Boalsburg, PA, at the 28th Infantry Division Shrine. A Fort Pitt Chapter Spring Social (date and time TBA) will give us the opportunity to get re-acquainted with you, discuss plans for the upcoming year, and showcase ways to become involved and attract new members. A Spring Staff Ride to Bushy Run Battlefield is scheduled for April 14,2012 with Col. Steven Patarcity (Ret.) Last year’s Military Appreciation Day at the Mylan Classic was such a success that this year that we will be sponsoring and coordinating a week-long event. Tournament dates are August 27th thru September 2nd.
I would like to ask that you please take a moment and review your member profile to ensure your contact information is current or renew you membership.
